Kangana Ranaut who is basking in the success of Manikarnika, months after the film’s release announced a new project on her birthday. The national award winning actress will be seen playing the former actress and late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
Kangana celebrated her birthday with the media and talking about her upcoming project, ‘Thalaivi’ on Saturday.
When asked about the opportunity to work in south Indian films, Ranaut said, “I always wanted to be a part of regional cinema. Whenever we travel down south I have noticed that the people there only watch their own films so there is a lot of disconnect in that part of the country. So I have always been waiting for a good opportunity and this just came my way.”
Kangana’s infamous ‘Queen’ has previously been remade in 4 south Indian languages but the actress wasn’t part of any.
Talking about why she chose to do the film, she said, “I was thinking about my own biopic, was working on it when this came up. The story has some similarities but this is a bigger success story than mine. When I heard the narration, it is so similar that either I could do that or this right now. So I decided to give a go-ahead to this biopic.”
She also revealed the film will be made in Tamil, ” will be released in Hindi as well but mostly the shooting will be done in Tamil. I will learn the language but unless I fail miserably they will have to dubb.” Kangana added.
She was last seen in Manikarnika that marked her directorial debut, the film was produced by Zee Studios in association with Kamal Jain and Nishant Pitti.
Her upcoming films include Mental Hai Kya’ with Rajkummar Rao. The film is being produced by Ekta Kapoor and is directed by Prakash Kovelamudi.
