Actress Huma Qureshi, who is all set to make her presence felt in the digital world with her forthcoming series, Leila, unveils a stunning new teaser of the series.
Netflix original series Leila is based on journalist-turned-writer Prayaag Akbar’s 2017 dystopian book of the same name. Filmmaker Deepa Mehta as director and creative executive producer, Leila stars Huma Qureshi, Siddharth, Rahul Khanna, Seema Biswas, Akash Khurana, Sanjay Suri and Arif Zakaria among others.
The series is set in the near future in a surveillance state; Leila is about a mother’s search for her daughter that was taken from her.
Huma Qureshi dropped the new teaser on her social media profile. She captioned it, “A woman’s battle against an unjust world to find her daughter. The journey premieres on 14 June, only on @NetflixIndia”
The series chronicles Shalini (Huma), who changes her religion after marrying Riz (Khanna), a Muslim man. They live in a near future where communities in the district live in ghettoed areas in accordance to their caste, religion and income.
Their daughter Leila, disappears at the age of three and Riz dies. Shalini, sixteen years later tries to find her missing daughter.
The six-episode series will premiere on 14 June, 2019 on Netflix.
