‘Kalank’ celebrates power of love says Varun Dhawan

Actor Varun Dhawan, who is gearing up for the release of his next film titled ‘Kalank’, has said that his upcoming period drama film celebrates power of love.

Varun Dhawan was interacting with the media at the trailer launch of ‘Kalank’ along with his co-actors Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, and Kunal Kemmu on Wednesday in Mumbai.

‘Kalank’ is set in 1945 in the pre-independence British era. It tells the travail of central characters in an ensemble.

When asked Varun what he has to say about unique titled of his upcoming film, he said, “I feel Kalank (stain) is like a stigma and sometimes, love is also been associated with it. People who are in love, they called it as a love but other people call it as Kalank (stain) but our film celebrates the power of love and when you get a power of love then, I feel you can overcome any obstacle in your life.”

In recent film award ceremony, Varun Dhawan said that his co-actor Alia Bhatt has become really huge actress after signing ‘Mashallah’ with Salman Khan and ‘RRR’ with SS Rajamouli, talking about Alia Bhatt with whom he has featured in numerous films, Varun said,  “I think Alia has become really huge actress and in the future, she might not have shooting dates to work with me in a film but on that remark, Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor laughed at that award function so, I asked them why are you laughing? Because in the future, she will do the same with both of you.”

Varun Dhawan revealed Shah Rukh Khan’s reaction after seeing him portraying the role of Zafar in Kalank.

The film was originally conceptualised a decade and a half ago. Karan Johar’s father, the late Yash Johar, was supposed to direct Kalank. Pre-production had begun, but it got shelved.

At that time, Yash Johar decided a different star cast for the film, which included Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Ajay Devgan and Kajol.

Shah Rukh was supposed to play Zafar’s character, now played by Varun Dhawan, in the film.

When Varun was asked about Shah Rukh’s reaction to his portrayal of Zafar, Varun said, “I met Shah Rukh sir a week back and he had already seen the teaser, he had some good things to say about it. He said, ‘It’s a good thing that you are doing these kinds of roles, it’s taking close to your fans.'”

Varun Dhawan is playing role of Zafar in ‘Kalank’ who is intense in his nature, talking about his character, Varun said, “Everything that my character goes through while growing up in his life forms the person that he is like most people are. It’s a period film so, I always used to think that how I will be able to identify with this character so, every day during the shooting of the film, I used to ask questions to our director Abhishek Verman about my character. I think whatever happens in his life, he will always come out with a smirk. He is bit arrogant which I haven’t portrayed in my earlier films but he is feels that he has every right to be arrogant in life.”

‘Kalank’ is a period drama film directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios.

It stars Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt and Kunal Khemu.

The film is scheduled for release on 17 April 2019.
