Actress Kangana Ranaut, last seen on screen in “Manikarnika”, will be playing late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in the upcoming multilingual biopic “Thalaivi”, which is made in Hindi with title Jaya.
On the occasion of Kangana’s birthday, trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the film on his social media profile. He wrote, “#BigNews: Kangana Ranaut to play Jayalalithaa… Biopic will be made in two languages. Titled #Thalaivi in Tamil and #Jaya in Hindi… Directed by AL Vijay… Written by KV Vijayendra Prasad [#Baahubali and #Manikarnika]…Produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh”
The film, announced on the occasion of 71st birthday anniversary of Jayalalithaa in February, will be directed by Vijay. To be produced by Vishnu Induri, “Thalaivi” will start rolling from April.
The film will be written by K.V. Vijayendra Prasad, who has also penned Baahubali and Manikarnika, and will be produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri & Shaailesh R Singh under the banner of Vibri and Karma Media and Entertainment.
Interestingly, another Jayalalithaa biopic titled “The Iron Lady” is currently in the offing. This project is gearing up for a 2020 release. Nithya Menen plays Jayalalithaa in “The Iron Lady”, being directed by A. Priyadarshini. The film will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
“Thalaivi” will be the official biopic on the life of Jayalalithaa, as the makers have taken permission from the late leader’s nephew Deepak.
Apart from Jaya in her kitty, Kangana Ranaut is currently busy with back to back two big projects, Prakash Kovelamudi’s Mental Hai Kya and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s Panga.
