A few days back actress Kubbra Sait wished veteran actor Amrish Puri on his birthday and wrote a note on how she has some karmic connection with the actor. This left her fans confused and questions started pouring in her for her as if she was related to the late actor. Now, she shares pictures of her grandfather and his resemblance to Amrish Puri will leave you spellbound.
Sharing the pictures, Kubbra writes about her connection with her grandfather. She writes, “I’ve been knocking doors for the last few days. It’s been a search to find photos of the most important man in my life. This is Abba, my grandfather. His name is Yusuf Sait. He was born in 1928. His birthdate isn’t recorded, so he celebrated his birthday on my Mum’s birthday, the 16th of August….coz ” Beta hum sher hain sher.” (Leo) He was born during the plague, he wasn’t going to survive but he did. He lived to be my grandfather. My mum was born to Azeez Sait but was raised by Yusuf and Najma (the uncle and aunt). Fortunately for me and Danish we had two grandparents from the maternal side alone.
I remember him being the unapologetic rock star. I always felt he was my own Amrish Puri. My last post, had people asking me, if was related to Amrish? No. My connect to Amrish, was the demeanour shared by these two men. Strong personalities, the baritone voice, the sexiness & the style. I wonder why Abba, never tried his hand at films. He dealt with real estate during his golden years. He would bring us all kids to watch movies to the drive in theatre.
He owned a yellow scooter with a massive wind shield. It had a rumble to it, just like his aura. He wore Jannat ul firdaus an ithar I’d bring for him when I’d visit from Dubai. I brought him a crystal tazbi & he prayed his fajr with it till his last days, and bragged about it to anyone and everyone who visited. When Amrish passed away in 2005, I called Abba and cried for hours. I asked him to pray for Amrish’s soul. I always felt Abba had a direct line to his “pir”. On the 11th of July, 2007 Abba passed away. He had a massive cardiac arrest. That day, I watched Amrish’s films in Dubai with my face glued to the TV screen crying. Long after he was gone his fragrance remained in the family home “Abba Manzil” in Mysore. Ammi and Mama lived in there, until his presence faded. When both these souls passed I wasn’t in India. I am sure wherever these two magnificent souls are, they must be looking in joy and delight and blessing me. I have been missing you more than words can say Abba. But, here is Ammi & she is fine and we are taking care of your First Lady. I love you. I miss you.”
Kubbra’s long note and the pictures shared is an answer to all who asked her about her connection with Amrish Puri. Her grandfather’s uncanny resemblance to Amrish Puri is surely not to be missed!
