“OTT Allows You To Explore And Perform More” Says Dia Mirza

Actor Dia Mirza, who is gearing up with forthcoming web-series Kaafir says OTT platform allows more to explore and perform as compared to films.
Actress Dia Mirza along with Mohit Raina and other cast and crew hosted a press conference here in Mumbai.
Dia Mirza started her career in films, and later she moved to digital space. When asked about difference between films and digital space, she said, “In films one needs to tell the story within those two or two and a half hour. The biggest difference between films and OTT platform narrative is that of reading a couplet and reading an entire novel that is difference”
“This is our eight episode show; the story will be narrated with eight episodes. As an artist you have more room and opportunity to invest, discover and reveal of the character within the story. Which you don’t always have the luxury in the films”
“With films, it is always limited time and space is allowed to a character. But in a story like this, having eight episodes and time, gives me so much as an artist to explore and do, and become” added Dia.
The series follows Kainaz (Mirza) a Pakistani woman who crossed over to India under mysterious circumstances and is being held prisoner there along with her daughter. Accused of being a militant, Kainaz gets help from a journalist-lawyer (Raina), who “makes her justice his sole objective”, according to the synopsis. Kaafir is inspired by a true story.
Further adding, Dia also added that she didn’t want to act or perform the role but feel and become the character.
She said, “I don’t think I have come out of my role yet, it will take some time. There were times when the camera stopped rolling but I was still in my character. I got sucked into my role”
“When I heard the script, the only thing I was conscious of, it is something I’ve worked very hard on, was to become Kainaz. I didn’t want to act, and the material doesn’t allow you the room to perform, it just makes you feel. And that is the power of Bhavani Iyer’s writing” added Dia.
Kashmir’s beauty and turmoil serve as the backdrop for Zee5’s upcoming web series Kaafir, it has been directed by Sonam Nair and written by Bhavani Iyer. The series will be out on Zee5 on June 15.
