Swara Bhaskar says she believes the sense of shame and guilt about your body that has been conditioned into girl children is negative and harmful.
Swara interacted with media at the launch of La Senza’s latest collection titled, ‘Girls Night Out’ on Thursday.
Talking about how women are taught to hide their bodies and features Swara said it had affected women badly in general. She added, “I have always felt that one of the most debilitating values Indian Parenting, and south Asian parenting and culture gives to girl children is a sense of Shame and shyness about the body. So much so that women have a problem with posture because we are so used to hiding our bodies that even standing straight is considered wrong. I strongly believe that this sense of shame and guilt about your body is negative and harmful.”
Swara also shared she agreed to work with the brand because it celebrated what society refuses, “I think innerwear for important for everyone and anyone but especially essential if you are a working girl. Because if you are not comfortable your entire day can go bad and unproductive.
La Senza is such a brand that has always tried to give not just comfortable but also beautiful designs. What I love the most about the brand is that it celebrates women bodies and respects all kinds of body shapes and sizes.” she added.
When asked who are her night out buddies in Bollywood she said, “It would have to be Sonam and Rhea (Kapoor) after Veere (DI Wedding) but all the night outs then are in Anil Sir’s house. But it feels like a night out with them so it’s great.”
Swara was last seen in the ‘Veer Di Wedding’ alongside, Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and more.
