On Monday, The Supreme Court asked Election Commission who had previously banned the release of PM Narendra Modi, to watch the film and then come to a decision.
Vivek Oberoi’s PM Narendra Modi biopic has been delayed for release due to the set date close to election timing. Election Commission a day prior to the delayed release date banned the film for any public and digital screening. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, argued on behalf of the producer, said that the Election Commission took the decision without watching the film and should reconsider.
However, on Monday the matter was adjourned to be taken up on a later date.
The Election Commission ordered the stoppage of release till the Lok Sabha elections conclude, which will not be up until mid-May.
The EC said it had received complaints about certain films, namely “NTR Laxmi”, “PM Narendra Modi” and “Udyama Simham”, which “claimed to either diminish or advance the electoral prospect of a candidate or a political party in the garb of creative freedom”.
