Corona virus has hit the world and last few weeks have been difficult for the nation as well the world in large. What happens next no one knows but there are millions of people who aren’t affected by the disease directly but indirectly. One of such industries is the Fashion industry, it has been entertaining people all across the globe and it will continue to do the same but how many of these people who are a part of this industry would survive by the end of it ? We do not know.
Fashion industry seems to be quite glamorous and glitzy but many wouldn’t know about the inside stories. You must have heard the saying, “Everything that glitters is not Gold”. This is so true in context to the fashion industry. The models, the back stage workers aren’t so financially secured, all of them earn money from shows and assignments on daily basis, some earn more and some earn less. But at the end of the day most of them earn hand to mouth. Not just them, there are so many designers & labels who would be effected by this, the textile industry also would be drastically effected and it would damage the lives of poor artisans too. People find the lives of the models to be the best, seeing it from outside but i promise getting in the boots of the professionals one would actually understand the struggle and the pain. Knowing of many models who have to pay the house rent, live, eat, maintain in a city like mumbai and not work for a month, means end of the career. One cannot survive without daily shows and shoots. Its a sad affair, at this point there is no one thinking and looking at this side of the world. Its unfortunate, the rich and known love coming for fashion shows, love their front row seats, love being a part of everything that is neing put up by the fashion industry but at this time there is no one. The models are glamourous but they also need to eat and survive as all other human beings, they earn very limited amount of money, at this point of the pandemic with no work & no money condition of the models is no different than the daily wagers who are found migrating & running towards their houses.
I have been running my own businesses which is why i am financially stable and mentally too as i do not have a fear of my profession coming to an end but for many this is a period of instability, be it financial or mental. In this dark time i urge to all the fashion enthusiasts, celebrities, fortunate ones, to do their bit in order to help the people of the fashion industry too, the ones who are really in need. I am doing my bit and i request you to do yours, we all stay together in this time of disaster, hoping this too shall pass.
